Andreas Janke

Violin

Andreas Janke, first concertmaster of the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, was born into a German-Japanese family of musicians in Munich and received his training at the Mozarteum University Salzburg in the masterclass of Prof Igor Ozim. He was also taught chamber music by the Hagen Quartet.

After winning numerous important prizes at international competitions such as the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels and the Prague Spring Competition, he began a busy international concert career early on, which has taken him to leading orchestras throughout Europe and Japan.

Among the orchestras he has worked with are the London Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields. He is also a welcome guest at several festivals, both as a soloist and as a chamber musician. Together with pianist Oliver Schnyder and cellist Benjamin Nyffenegger, he forms the Schnyder Trio, with whom he can be heard on renowned concert stages around the world.

The trio regularly records for Sony Classical. He has also been a professor of violin at the Zurich University of the Arts since autumn 2013. Andreas Janke plays a violin by Carlo Bergonzi "Hozier, Andrews" 1733-39, provided by Mercedes-Benz Automobil AG, Zurich.
